Hello!! I have
missed you so terribly much. You
stalwart souls who remain readers of this little blog. You who have just now dropped in (nice to
meet you!). You who leave comments on
every post. You who have never commented
at all. This space where I feel so at
home. I miss you, and it, all when I am (figuratively) away.
Life has been, to say the least, hectic and, well, trying, these days. I wonโt get into the gritty details here but
suffice to say that it has been coming from more than one front โ which is
always tough to navigate and harder still to defend your inner fort. Thanks to my wonderful family, and awesome
husband, I remain, however, resolutely and bravely afloat. I look around me and I see so much I am so
fully grateful for. And grateful that I
still remain grateful. If that make sense
to you then we are of like minds ๐

All of this is also to say that I havenโt got a recipe
for you (though I am fine tuning my chicken tinola and hopefully will get this
to you one day). What I do have is a
list, a giveaway and, of course, some breakfast.
for you (though I am fine tuning my chicken tinola and hopefully will get this

list, a giveaway and, of course, some breakfast.
Many bloggers regularly put together lists of favorites,
and really, I think we all do โ whether or not we share them. I bookmark all sorts of things that inspire
me, whether it be a recipe for a luscious looking chocolate cake, a party idea
for little C, or a stop-them-in-their-tracks dress. Since the world, I believe, is made better by
sharing, Iโve decided to share my own lists here of things that make me smile. And if you enjoy them, I will certainly share
with more regularity.

Here we go…
** I love chancing upon talented Filipino food bloggers (and
this includes Filipino *and* foreign food bloggers in the Philippines, as well
as Filipino food bloggers abroad โ the Pinoy connection gets me every time!). Some of my latest favorites: Pepper.ph,
Tartine and Apron Strings, and Mr. Delicious.

** Little Cโs first chocolate!! Yes, she loved it ๐
** Now, this breakfast isnโt exactly a recipe. It is one of my very favorite ways to have
yogurt. So I have added it to my list. Oranges are my absolute first place winning
partner for yogurt, and this is my absolute best way to have that combination:
Greek yogurt + oranges + nuts + honey + cinnamon. Try it!

And lastlyโฆI promised a giveaway. A while back, the nice people over at FrugalBook contacted me about contributing a recipe to their cookbook, Frugally Delicious. No stranger to looking for
ways to cut cost but not flavor I said โcount me inโ! Now the book is published and I am tickled
pink to have a recipe of mine in print!!
I am even more tickled to be in the company of a wonderful bunch of contributors. There are some lovely
recipes to be had here folks, many of which I have already marked to try (Plum Tart by Sprouted Kitchen, Coriander Magic by A Food Lover’s Journey, Pasta with Roasted Red Pepper Cream Sauce by 6 Bittersweets, and Mexican Bibimbap by Bon Appetempt). If youโd like to purchase a copy you can do so
here. Or you can leave a comment on this
post and, possibly, get one for free! I
will give a copy of Frugally Delicious to one commenter who I will pick
randomly. This giveaway is open to

I'm so glad that you started Little C off with Dark Chocolate! That's definitely starting her off on the right foot.
The book looks great. I'd love to win a copy ๐

A lovely list! Chocolate sheet cakes are really delicious.
Cheers,

When I finally tore my gaze from that lovely yogurt breakfast, I thoroughly enjoyed your list. I'm also loving Pepper.ph & Mr. Delicious (I think I've spotted him wandering around Salcedo Market), but Tartine & Apron Strings is new to me. Thanks for the intro!
Your photography is already fantastic but the 50Feasts course sounds great; I know someone who's taken it and has only raves about it. ๐
With this wonderful citrus-y yogurt start, I hope you have a marvelous Sunday!
Jen @ Peanut Butter and Peppers says
How awesome to have your recipe in a cookbook!! Congrats to you!! Woohoo!!
Kristin Flessland says
Great list! I really loved the cookbook (Ready for Dessert) recommendation. I have added it to my wishlist ๐
Nina says
I love lists! Thanks for sharing! ๐ I've bookmarked the blogs you recommended as well as the brownie recipe. I love how your recipes have such simple and basic ingredients. I'll be making these brownies to bring to a brunch meet-up with friends. You can never go wrong with brownies for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks right? ๐
Baking Biologist says
That is really great about your daughter liking chocolate! I am sure she will grow up to have a very refined palate. Your yogurt idea is beautiful and makes me wish breakfast would hurry up and get here! Thanks for your blogging!

Anything that starts off with the adjective Frugal definitely has my interest piqued haha

Congrats on your addition to the cookbook!
And I can say, without hesitation, that PW's chocolate sheet cake is one of the best I've ever eaten.
Sally says
Greek yogurt is one of my favorites. Mixed with oranges, nuts, honey and cinnamon sounds just divine. It also sound like a great energizing breakfast without going overboard on calories. How exciting your recipe is in the book, would love a copy!
mobile247 says
thanks for sharing your list, most of which i have now bookmarked ๐
as a lover of dark chocolate, little c's first chocolate piqued my interest, any chance you sourced that locally? i would definitely like to get my hands (and eventually my taste buds) on some ๐
Eileen says
That yogurt looks amazing! I think I'd have a hard time resisting adding half the pantry to it. ๐
Congrats on your book contribution, and thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

I feel ya, Joey. As you know, I was feeling a bit down myself recently. Thankfully, it was very temporary and was quite easily fixed by stepping outside, ingesting some sugar, and remembering there's much to be thankful for. ๐
To begin with: thank you for the reco on Mr. Delicious! I'd never heard of that blog, and from the little I've seen just now, I enjoy it already. Sarcasm, gluttonous, boozy brunches, and a defense of foie — what's not to love?!
I've heard our seasons described as wet and dry or hot and hotter, but you're the first I know who's added Christmas — that's so you, so Pinoy, and I'm so gonna quote you on that! (I've quoted you many times before.)
My sister has "Ready for Dessert" and loves it. Can't wait to see what you'll bake from it!
FINALLY, C tries and likes chocolate! Do tell how you managed to persuade her to taste it, and her first reaction!
You're in a cookbook — color me impressed! And it seems you're the only Filipina in it? GALING! So proud of you, Joey!!!
Ayen says
Where do you buy your greek yogurt? Most supermarkets here in the metro don't have them..
BettyAnn @Mango_Queen says
Oh I love your list & I love your breakfast yogourt treat! What a lovely post you just put together! I'm heading over to your reco blogs to check out what's cooking over there. Have a great week ahead, Joey!
Jess says
I've been pining for David Lebovitz's cookbook, too! I also love the idea behind Frugally Delicious!
dontaskmetosmile says
My friend has made the sheet cake from the PW, and she swears by it. The frosting, in particular is what makes it to die for, apparently.
I love everything by David Lebovitz. I might actually qualify as a stalker as I follow his blog, him on Twitter & I cook his recipes. Haha. His salted butter chocolate chip cookies are a fave of mine (I taste tested his three choc chip recipes), and his devil's food cake is pretty good too. His chocolate cupcakes are my go-to chocolate cupcakes for now as well.
Yes, there's a theme. Chocolate. ๐
Jen Laceda | Tartine and Apron Strings says
Thanks for including me on your list ๐ Hopefully, things are on the brighter side now, as I think they are. And also, wow!, congrats on your published recipe! To be in the company of such esteemed bloggers / kitchen professional is a great feat in itself! That's a testament to your wonderful talent! Would love to get my hands on Frugally Delicious!
joey says
Hi Redd! I really wanted her first taste of chocolate to be the good stuff ๐
Thanks Rosa! ๐
Hi Tracey! I have yet to spot him…soon! I really like their blogs, and I'm always so happy to find nice blogs that are either based in the Philippines or written by Filipinos (wherever they may be) ๐ Good to hear the feedback on 50Feasts…one of these days!
Hi Jen! Thank you!! I am thrilled ๐
Hi Kristin! I am hunting that cookbook down over here and will buy it as soon as I get my hands on it!
Hi Nina! Glad you enjoyed the list (and the recipes)! ๐ I agree with you 100% on brownies ๐
Hi Baking Biologist! I just feed her what I enjoy and hope for the best! ๐ I love love love the yogurt and oranges combination…my favorite fruit to have with yogurt!
Hi Amy Beth! Chocolate cake is indeed one of life's great pleasures!
Hi Jessica! Thanks ๐
Hi Elizabeth! It is such a rush to see my recipe in print ๐
Hi Tin! Yes, she has been refusing chocolate all this time (I suspect because of the color)!
Hi Sandee! Me too!
Hi MrsNumbles! Thank you! I am so excited to try PW's sheet cake already!!
Hi Sally! It is a great breakfast and one of my favorites! I love Greek yogurt beyond all reason!
Hi Mobile 247! Yes, you can get that chocolate locally! It's from Terry's Selection in Pasong Tamo ๐
Hi Eileen! Thank you! I know it's hard to resist overloading a good bowl of yogurt ๐
Hi Katrina! Thank you!! No one is immune to the doldrums…I am glad you are feeling better! I discovered Mr. Delicious through the Ministry of Mushrooms and so glad I did ๐ As for Christmas…you *know* it's one of the biggest *seasons* here right? ๐ Plus it lasts 4 ("ber") months so I think that definitely qualifies it, hahaha! I am honored that you would quote anything I say!!! ๐ And if your sister bought the DL's book I am definitely getting it too! I actually didn't "persuade" little C to eat the chocolate…C and I were eat it and she asked for some (and liked what she tasted!). When she takes the initiative there is usually a higher chance she will like something ๐ She loved it! Kept coming back to ask for more bites ๐
Hi Ayen! Guess what…this Greek yogurt is local! I get it from Rizal Dairy Farms — they have a stall in Market! Market! (in the palengke area, near the big rice stall) and also in the Salcedo market. They have different kinds of yogurt so make sure to ask for their Greek yogurt (it comes in regular and low-fat) ๐ Enjoy!!
Hi BettyAnn! Thank you and hope you enjoy the links! Have a great week!
Hi Jess! So many good reviews for David Lebovitz's cookbook…can wait to get my hands on it too! And Frugally Delicious has got a lot of good dishes as well ๐
